Are you truly ready for a puppy?

Before You Welcome a Puppy Into Your Life

Bringing a dog into your home is one of the most rewarding decisions you can make, but it is also one of the most important. A puppy is not a short-term commitment or an impulse purchase, it is a long-term responsibility that will shape your daily life for many years to come.

We strongly believe that no one should ever feel rushed into buying a puppy. The right dog, at the right time, for the right home is what truly matters.

Take Time to Make the Right Decision

Puppies are undeniably adorable, and it is very easy to be swept up in excitement. However, behind that excitement lies a living being that will rely on you completely for care, guidance, training, and emotional security.

Before making a decision, it is important to consider:

  • Your lifestyle and daily routine

  • Time available for training, exercise, and companionship

  • Financial responsibility, including food, insurance, and vet care

  • Long-term commitments such as holidays, work schedules, and housing

  • The emotional investment of raising a young dog through all life stages

A well-matched dog can bring incredible joy, but a rushed decision can unfortunately lead to stress for both owner and dog.

Puppies Are a Journey, Not a Quick Decision

Raising a puppy takes patience, consistency, and time. The early months involve training, socialisation, and building routines that shape the adult dog they will become. It is a commitment that requires understanding and preparation, not impulse.

We always encourage potential owners to take their time, ask questions, and feel fully confident before moving forward. A responsible breeder should support that process, not pressure it.

Have You Considered Rescue?

While we are breeders, we also have deep respect for rescue organisations and the incredible work they do.

There are many dogs in rescue centres who are waiting for loving homes for a variety of reasons, none of which reflect their ability to be wonderful companions. In some cases, a rescue dog may already be house-trained or past the demanding puppy stage, making them a great match for certain households.

We believe it is always worth considering whether adoption could be the right path for you. Every dog deserves a safe, loving home, whether they come from a breeder or a rescue environment.

Making the Right Choice

Whether you choose a responsibly bred puppy or a rescue dog, what matters most is thoughtful preparation, honest reflection, and choosing a dog whose needs you can truly meet.

Dogs give us their whole lives — and they deserve us to give them the same level of commitment in return.

If you decide the time is right for a puppy, we are always happy to offer guidance and answer questions. But just as importantly, we fully support anyone taking the time they need to make the right decision for them and for the dog.

Are You Ready for a Puppy Quiz

Bringing a puppy into your life is an exciting decision — but it is also a long-term commitment that deserves careful thought. This short quiz is designed to help you honestly reflect on whether now is the right time for a dog.

There are no “right” or “wrong” answers — just guidance to help you make the best decision for both you and the puppy.

Take a moment to answer the following questions honestly:

1. Time & Lifestyle

  • Do you have enough time each day for training, exercise, and companionship?

  • Are you able to adjust your routine for toilet training and early puppy stages?

  • Are you away from home for long periods regularly?

2. Long-Term Commitment

  • Are you prepared for a 10–15 year commitment?

  • Have you considered how your life may change (work, travel, family changes)?

  • Are you ready to prioritise a dog as part of your daily life?

3. Financial Responsibility

  • Can you comfortably afford food, grooming, insurance, and routine vet care?

  • Are you prepared for unexpected veterinary costs if they arise?

  • Have you considered ongoing expenses beyond the initial purchase?

4. Training & Patience

  • Are you prepared for chewing, accidents, and disrupted sleep in the early months?

  • Do you have the time and patience to train consistently using positive reinforcement?

  • Are you willing to seek help or guidance if needed?

5. Home Environment

  • Is your home suitable and safe for a puppy?

  • If renting, do you have permission for a dog?

  • Do all members of your household agree and feel ready?

6. Emotional Readiness

  • Are you ready to care for a dog every day, not just when it is convenient?

  • Do you understand that puppies require structure, consistency, and attention?

  • Are you prepared to put your dog’s needs ahead of convenience at times?

Your Reflection

If you answered “yes” to most of these questions, you may be in a strong position to welcome a puppy into your life.

If you found yourself unsure about several points, it may be worth waiting a little longer or preparing further before making a decision.

There is absolutely no rush — the right time is when both you and the dog are ready.

A Final Thought

Puppies are not just a short chapter in your life — you are their whole world for their entire life.

Whether you choose to welcome a responsibly bred puppy or consider a rescue dog, what matters most is making a thoughtful, informed, and lifelong commitment.

If and when the time is right, we are always happy to offer guidance and answer any questions you may have — with no pressure, just support.
