First-Time Dog Owner Support

Bringing a puppy into your home for the first time is an exciting experience, but it can also feel overwhelming. At Prestige Cavapoo, a large number of our families are first-time dog owners, so we place great importance on providing clear, calm, and ongoing support throughout the entire journey and continuing as long as you need us.

Our aim is not just to raise well-bred puppies, but to ensure every owner feels confident, prepared, and supported long after their puppy leaves us.

Before Collection Day

The preparation stage is just as important as the day your puppy comes home.

Before collection, we will:

  • Talk you through everything your puppy will need at home

  • Provide feeding guidance and routine information

  • Advise on crate setup, bedding, and safe spaces

  • Help you prepare for toilet training and early routine building

  • Answer any questions you may have, no matter how small

We believe no one should feel rushed or unprepared. The goal is to ensure you feel ready and confident before your puppy arrives.

On Collection Day

This is quite an important time for you to see how we have raised your puppy. This is when we open up our home to you and meet all of our dogs, especially mum and dad. We will then sit down together and have a long chat and go through our puppy guide with you, answering any questions you have aswell as re touching on things previously discussed or anything we have missed. Theres quite a lot of information given on collection day and we understand it can sometimes be overwhelming but dont worry if you forget anything, everything is there for you in your puppy pack and im always on hand for questions anytime after this too.

The First Night at Home

The first night is a big adjustment for both puppy and owner.

It is completely normal for puppies to feel unsure in a new environment. Some may settle quickly, while others may need reassurance during the night.

Helpful guidance includes:

  • Keeping the environment calm and consistent

  • Providing a safe, cosy sleeping area (often a crate or pen)

  • Expecting some crying or restlessness at first

  • Establishing a predictable bedtime routine

With patience and reassurance, most puppies begin to settle within a few nights as they adjust to their new surroundings.

Toilet Training Guidance

Toilet training is one of the first and most important parts of early puppy development.

Key principles include:

  • Regular trips outside, especially after waking, eating, and playing

  • Positive reinforcement when your puppy gets it right

  • Consistency with routine and timing

  • Supervision to prevent accidents indoors

Accidents are completely normal in the early stages. Progress comes through repetition, patience, and consistency rather than punishment.

Crate Training

When introduced correctly, a crate can provide a safe, secure space for your puppy and greatly assist with training.

We recommend:

  • Making the crate a positive and comfortable environment

  • Using soft bedding and safe chew toys

  • Introducing it gradually rather than forcing it

  • Using it for rest and downtime, not as punishment

Most puppies learn to see their crate as their own safe space when introduced properly and patiently.

Feeding Guidance

Good nutrition plays an important role in your puppy’s development.

We provide each family with:

  • A full feeding guide tailored to your puppy

  • Details of the food they are currently weaned onto

  • Advice on portion sizes and feeding frequency

  • Guidance on transitioning food if needed

Consistency is important during the early weeks, as sudden changes can upset a young puppy’s stomach.

Ongoing Support (something I take great pride in)

One of the things our puppy families value most is that our support does not end when your puppy leaves us.

We are always available to help with:

  • Training questions

  • Behaviour advice

  • Feeding and routine support

  • General guidance as your puppy grows

Many of our owners are first-time dog owners, and we understand that reassurance and guidance can make all the difference during the early months and beyond.

We believe responsible breeding is a lifelong commitment, not just the first eight weeks of a puppy’s life.

Just Remember

Every puppy is an individual, and every journey will look slightly different. Some settle quickly, others take more time both are completely normal.

What matters most is patience, consistency, and having support when you need it.

We are always here to help ensure both you and your puppy have the very best start together and thats a promise.

With Love Becky x
