OWNING A CAVAPOO
Is it the Breed for you?
Theres no promise of a Hypoallergenic puppy!
There is a huge amount of information online about Cavapoos, and like many crossbreeds, opinions can sometimes be mixed or misleading. It is important for potential owners to have a clear, realistic understanding of what a Cavapoo is and what they are not.
A Cavapoo is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Like all crossbreeds, they are the result of combining two distinct breeds, each with their own characteristics. While this can sometimes produce a lovely blend of traits, genetics does not follow a predictable pattern, and puppies within the same litter can vary quite a bit in appearance, coat type, and temperament.
Because of this natural variation, no breeder can guarantee exact traits such as coat type, size, or hypoallergenic qualities. While Poodles are often associated with lower shedding, all dogs produce dander, which is the main cause of allergies. Some individuals may find certain dogs easier to tolerate than others, but there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog.
What we can say with confidence is that Cavapoos are typically affectionate, social, and people-oriented dogs. They are known for forming strong bonds with their families and usually enjoy being involved in daily life. They tend to be friendly with visitors and are not generally natural guard dogs.
Cavapoos are also intelligent and capable learners. With early socialisation, consistent training, and positive reinforcement, they usually respond very well to training. Like many companion breeds, some individuals may prefer cuddles over structured training, but most enjoy interaction, rewards, and mental stimulation.
In terms of lifestyle, Cavapoos are generally adaptable and suit a wide range of homes. They require regular daily exercise, such as walks and playtime, and also benefit from companionship and mental enrichment. Many enjoy games such as fetch and can take part in activities like obedience or agility when their health and confidence allow.
They are often suitable for family environments, including homes with children, provided interactions are always supervised and respectful, especially with younger children who may not yet understand how to handle a small dog safely.
